Retrofit Case Study

Customer excited for SHDF works to begin

“I can’t wait, to be totally honest!”

Those are the thoughts of one customer who’s home is getting energy efficiency improvements made through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) project.

Dorothy Cox, who lives in Sneinton in Nottinghamshire, was thrilled to learn that her home would be part of our programme of improvements.

The property – which is in a conservation area - will be getting measures including internal and external wall insulation, new windows and doors, improved ventilation and a new boiler.

She said: “We were quite excited when we found out we were part of the project.

“The house is quite draughty, and it costs us a fortune in gas. It’ll be nice to have all the insulation done and knowing we’re now allowed to have it done is fantastic.

“I can’t wait, to be totally honest. We’re having new radiators and a new boiler fitted soon, which will be nice. I’m also looking forward to the new windows being installed.”

Dorothy added that despite one small hiccup in communication, she’s been impressed with her experience of the SHDF project so far.

“It’s been okay so far,” she said.

“A few weeks ago, an appointment was missed. When I called up to point this out, I spoke to Jo-Ann (Stother, SHDF Programme Manager) and it was dealt with really well.

“She explained everything to me in terms of where we’re at with everything, because they’ve had to apply for additional planning permissions as we’re in a conservation area.

“I’m hoping that by getting the insulation, it’ll help cut our costs significantly.”

We’ll be catching up with Dorothy at various stages of the programme to find out how the work has been going and the benefits it’s had for her.
